REV (Indoor Cycling) is an aerobic cardio workout that takes place on a specially designed stationary bicycle, using a weighted flywheel to simulate the effects of inertia and momentum of riding a real bicycle. As you pedal, our well-trained and high-energy trainers motivate you with music and cues to guide you through a series of hills, sprints and jumps. Get ready to burn calories and sweat! Students can either wear athletic sneakers or cycling shoes.
During the class you vary your pace — sometimes pedaling as fast as you can, other times cranking up the tension and pedaling slowly from a standing position. This helps you to focus inwardly and work on your mind as well as your body.
Each person in class can choose their own goals for the session by varying their own pace and resistance levels. Some participants choose to maintain a moderate, aerobic intensity level, while others drive their heart rates higher in intervals of anaerobic activity. This is a major advantage of indoor cycling – each student can control their level of intensity and classes can therefore be custom tailored to their own fitness goals.
Besides being a great form of aerobic activity (burning between 400-600 calories in 45 minutes), indoor cycling is also beneficial in strengthening the muscles of the lower body. It tones the quadriceps and hamstrings, along with working the core.
Although you follow the general instructions of the Instructor, YOU are in control when it comes to your pace and intensity level. Anyone can take a REV class. It’s appropriate for all fitness levels, simply by adjusting your pace and/or the tension knob on the bike!
